About Mongoose Bicycles
For almost 40 years, BMX and mountain bike maker Mongoose has been in the dirt, on the trails, and off the ramps. Founded in 1974 in a Southern California garage, Mongoose has always been an aggressive brand with products that push the limits of what riders can do. Mongoose builds for riders, which is why its designers test new designs themselves, at the park, on the track, and on the hill. It's what drives the company to innovate new ideas, such as its Front Porch head tube, which lets you fine-tune handling on Black Diamond series mountain bikes, or Freedrive suspension technology, which eliminates pedal bob and optimizes efficiency on full suspension bikes.

My husband chose this bike for our eight year old daughter. He is in the military so Christmas shopping online is a necessity. Amazon had a low price compared to other place even with Christmas sales. I did have a little bit of a hard time putting this bike together because the directions were for lots of mongoose bikes and not specifically for this one. I took my time and got it together and I am satisfied with the outcome. I have ridden the bike myself and it is very sturdy. We love this bike and my daughter is very pleased with it. We bought her this one because the one we bought her last year at a cheap price fell apart with little use and it was garage kept. We sprung for the name brand to hopefully last her many years to come.

Bought this for my 8 year old and it is a nice bike, a little heavier than I expected it to be, but well made. I removed the front hand brake as I did not want her to accidentally squeeze the wrong brake and flip over, since this is her first free wheeler (that was what we used to call them when there is no pedal brake). I had to break it off as it is a more solid plastic clamp style and wouldn't bend or come apart to remove it. either that or tear the grip and replace them afterwards. Since I want planning on reinstalling it I opted to break it off. Tires are a street style and not a dirt tire. I bought my son a Diamond back bmx bike and if I had know how heavy this bike was I would have opted to get another like it, but they didn't have a "girls"bike available at the time. All in all a good bike just beware it is heavier than some that you may have been looking at.

I can only give this bike 3 stars because of the problems I had with the first one I received. It was missing a bolt and a washer for the front tire and the rear reflector was broken. Initially, I visited a couple bike shops where I was able to get a new reflector, but they didn't have the exact replacement washers and bolts so I contacted Mongoose (Pacific Cycle, Inc.) Their customer service was spectacular and they rushed the replacement parts to me. Unfortunately, the washers they sent were too big and the bolts didn't match the threads on the front axle. After attempting to assemble the bike with what I had for Christmas morning, I gave up in frustration and a partially stripped front axle. I considered a straight return however my daughter liked the picture from the bike box under the Christmas tree so I decided to give it a second chance. Amazon accepted the returned bike and sent a replacement. The second bike had all the parts and none of them were broken! An hour later my daughter had a functioning bicycle. If the parts had been easily replaceable locally or if the replacement parts the manufacturer sent had fit I would have given this 5 stars. It's easy to assemble and not too difficult to adjust for the rider.
